Netflix Unveils Epic Yoruba Story ‘Lisabi’

Netflix has officially confirmed that Lisabi: The Uprising will premiere on September 27, 2024.

It makes it a standout addition to Netflix’s diverse and growing collection of Yoruba-language films.

The movie is set in the 18th-century Oyo Empire.

Also, the film tells the story of an Egba farmer who leads a rebellion against the oppressive Oyo rulers.

Using the strength of his fellow farmers and his mysterious abilities, he defies the empire.

He ultimately defeated over 6,000 Oyo soldiers and secured independence for the Egba people after centuries of domination.

The release of Lisabi: The Uprising adds to Netflix’s impressive Yoruba-language lineup, joining other epic films.

Epic movies such as Femi Adebayo’s Jagun Jagun, Kunle Afolayan’s Anikulapo: The Rise of The Spectre, and Bolanle Austen-Peters’ House of Ga’a.

Also, this signals a significant shift towards grand historical narratives in Nigerian cinema.
