After the hearing at Manchester’s Minshull Street Crown Court, the football player Mason Greenwood for Manchester United, who is accused of attempted rape, assault, and controlling and coercive behavior, was granted bail.
He was remanded in custody after making an appearance at Manchester Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
On Wednesday, a secret hearing for a bail application was held in Manchester’s Minshull Street Crown Court.
After the hearing, a court spokeswoman announced that bail had been approved, with the requirements that the defendant must not contact any witnesses—including the complainant—and stay at a residence on Bow Green Road in Bowdon.
Greenwood was scheduled to appear in court once more on November 21 but did not show up for the brief session.
The same woman is accused of all three offenses.
The footballer was initially detained in January in connection with claims involving a young woman after pictures and videos were uploaded online.
He had been out on bond since, but on Saturday, he was taken into custody near Trafford for allegedly breaking the terms of his release.
Between November 2018 and October of this year, he is said to have engaged in controlling and coercive behavior, including accessing and monitoring the complainant’s social media accounts and making threatening and disparaging remarks to her.
The charge of assault occasioning actual bodily harm is dated December 2021.
Within hours of the allegations surfacing online at the beginning of the year, the forward – who has made one appearance for England – was suspended from playing or training with the Old Trafford club.
