Following Cristiano Ronaldo’s explosive interview with Piers Morgan, Manchester United is looking into methods to sever the player’s contract with the club.
Ronaldo also claimed members of the United hierarchy are trying to force him out of Old Trafford and doubted him when he said he could not attend pre-season because his daughter was ill in hospital.
United said they would consider their response to Ronaldo’s comments “after the full facts have been established” and released a short statement on Friday announcing the club had “initiated appropriate steps”.
It is now clear there is “close to zero chance” Ronaldo will play for the club again.
Sad that it’s come to a point where arguably United’s greatest ever talent is likely to be sacked. It didn’t need to be like this. A mature conversation a few weeks ago between “both parties” could have secured a smooth exit.

While United has not given a timeline for the process, it is believed that they want Ronaldo’s departure to be handled “cleanly and fast” and in the most respectful manner possible, both to reduce distractions at Old Trafford and to honor Portugal during the World Cup.

Given the desire of both player and club to part ways, it is anticipated that a settlement will be achieved quickly. United do not want to pay Ronaldo to go.
