Veteran Nigerian singer, songwriter and actress, Onyeka Onwenu, has passed away.
The iconic artist died on Tuesday night at the age of 72 after performing at an event in Banana Island, Lagos.
The celebrated music icon collapsed at the Reddington Hospital in Lagos after falling ill during a private function.
According to sources close to the family, Onwenu was attending a friend’s birthday party when she took to the stage to perform.
Shortly after returning to her seat, she suddenly collapsed.
However, emergency responders swiftly arrived.
She was rushed to the hospital in Victoria Island, where she was later pronounced dead.
Also, the cause of death is yet to be confirmed.
Furthermore, Onyeka Onwenu, born in 1952 in Obosi, Anambra State, Nigeria.
She began her music career in the 1980s.
Also, she released her debut album, “For the Love of You,” in 1981.

Also, she went on to produce numerous albums and singles, including the popular song “One Love”.
In addition to her music career, Onwenu was also a notable actress in Nollywood, earning numerous awards for her contributions to both music and film.
