Politics is not for the faint-hearted, it is a game of power where strength, influence, and strategy determine survival. This is more real in Nigeria.
There is an old saying that if one lacks the necessary fortitude, they must either be deeply religious or seek supernatural backing.
Politics is a murky battlefield where even the purest white can be stained.
This is the case, as turmoil unfolds within the Lagos State House of Assembly.
The Lagos State House of Assembly complex was thrown into chaos this morning as operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) stormed the premises.
Also, they reportedly sealed off the offices of the Speaker, Mojisola Meranda, her Deputy, and the Clerk of the House.
By 10:00 a.m., heavily armed security personnel had taken control of the Assembly complex in Alausa, Ikeja.
They subjected lawmakers, staff, and visitors to thorough searches before granting access.
Drama escalated when Speaker Meranda arrived at approximately 11:00 a.m. with her convoy, only to be barred from entering her office or the legislative chambers.
DSS officials, clad in black jackets and helmets, stood their ground.
This led to a heated standoff between them and lawmakers who sought to facilitate the Speaker’s entry.
Amidst rising speculation that Meranda was being pressured to resign.
Lawmakers rallied in her support, chanting, “Meranda, we want”, and passing a vote of confidence in her leadership.
Despite the confrontation, she eventually assumed control of the day’s proceedings.

The exact reasons behind the DSS’ intervention remain unclear.
Sources suggest that the crisis stems from internal tensions within the Assembly, particularly in the aftermath of the removal of former Speaker Mudashiru Obasa on 13 January 2025.
