The National Agency for Foods, Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has apprehended three petrol tankers loaded with cooking oil, in Lagos State.
According to NAFDAC, the vegetable oil was being loaded in Apapa onto a petrol tanker that had been used to load petrol.
The agency decried the disregard for public health and the resulting cancer citizens could be prone to because of such act.
NAFDAC shared a statement via its X account on Wednesday evening.
The agency said its South West Zonal Office will proceed with further investigation.

“NAFDAC officials seized three petrol tanker trucks in Apapa for allegedly transporting crude edible vegetable oil.
The oil had reportedly been trans-loaded into the tankers from an edible oil depot.
“Concerned about the potential health risks due to chemical contamination from the tankers’ previous use for transporting petrol, NAFDAC officials escorted the tankers to a processing facility in Sango-Ota.
“The Director-General of NAFDAC has since established a committee to develop guidelines and a code of ethics for the marketing and distribution of edible vegetable oils in Nigeria.
“NAFDAC urges the public to report any suspicious or unwholesome practices related to food and regulated products.
We affirm our commitment to strict enforcement and continuous surveillance to protect public health,” the statement read.
