Bayern were held to a goalless draw at Leverkusen on Saturday in a match which saw the Bavarians fail to manage a single shot on target in the first half of a Bundesliga match since records began.

Kane’s performance has been ripped apart by German newspaper Bild who handed him a brutal rating of five (with six being the worst possible score) in their post-match analysis.

Kane tried to look on the bright side after the dismal display, posting on Instagram: “If you can’t be at your best then don’t lose! Clean sheet and a point and we move on!”

The result does mean that Bayern remain eight points clear of the defending champions and still on course to regain their league crown, which would also hand Kane the first major trophy of his career.

Pressure

Bayern boss Vincent Kompany defended Kane and his Bayern team after the result.

He told reporters: “We’re not eight points ahead by chance.

“We’ve already scored I think more than 100 goals this season [in all competitions].

“OK, Leverkusen today earned the right to play and put us under a lot of pressure – but if we don’t show mentality to block shots, crosses, defend as a team with Harry and Jamal after a tough battle in Glasgow three days ago, then we’d have left this place more disappointed.

“We’ll definitely learn from this game, but we take the result and move on”

Bayern have another big week coming up with a visit from Celtic in the second leg of their Champions League play-off up next.

Kompany’s side hold a 2-1 lead from the first leg in Glasgow.

Kane and Co. then host third-placed Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga.
