Gunmen Attack Gov Okowa’s Security Aides, Kills Three

Three police officers, who are the security aides of the Delta State governor, have been killed in Anambra State by gunmen.

The officers were personnel of the department of Explosive Ordinance Device, (EoD) under the Delta State Police Command.

The security operatives were shot dead on Friday in Ihiala Local Government Area of Anambra State while on their way to Abia State.

The victims were attached to the Delta State Government House, as an advance team of Governor Ifeanyi Okowa.

Governor Okowa is the Vice Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP).

The names of the three security aides were revealed as Inspectors Lucky Aleh, Celestine Nwadiokwu and Jude Obuh.

A source said the gunmen intercepted them at about 1.30pm at Ihiala Local Government Area. After shooting them, they also set their vehicle ablaze.

“Four officers were in the vehicle but one was on mufti (not on uniform) so he was freed while the three in uniform were killed.

“The Escort commander from the Government House, Asaba, was sent to bring their corpses and deposit them in a mortuary in Asaba.”

We Got Distress Calls

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, (PPRO), of Anambra State command, Ikenga Tochukwu, vowed to apprehend the killers.

According to Tochukwu, they received a distress call on the matter. Immediately, officers were  mobilised to the scene, but the officers had already been killed.

He said: “We got distress calls and we rushed to the scene of the incident.

“The policemen who were killed are from the Delta State command. They were on transit as at the time of the incident.

“But I can assure you that the State commissioner of police, Anambra, is very poised to bring to book the criminals behind the dastardly act”.

Investigation has started in a bid to identify the killers.

This is coming few days to the general election, which the members of the prohibited Independent Peoples of Biafra have said they would scuttle in the state.

The killing of the governor’s security aides will further raise questions about the security of voters in coming elections.
