Late MKO Abiola may not be happy wherever he is for what President Bola Tinubu has done to him.

You see, the Democracy Day, annually celebrated on June 12, is always all about Abiola and other patriots, who paid the ultimate sacrifice that paved way for the democracy the country now enjoys.

However, when it got to Tinubu’s turn to honour these past heroes, the Nigerian leader decided to steal their shine.

As we speak, Tinubu has been the main subject of this period.

His dramatic fall, which he claimed was his own way to ‘dobale’, has left Tinubu in the lips of every Nigerian instead of Abiola who used to be the reason for the celebration.

Democracy Day

It all started at the Eagles Square in Abuja.

That was the venue for the Democracy Day ceremony.

The President and his teaming entourage had arrived at the venue in grand style.

Shortly after his arrival, Tinubu approached the parade vehicle.

Before Nigerians knew what was happening, Jagaban, on whose mandate many Nigerians stand, was seen rolling inside the parade van.

Since that moment till now, this gist has not left the mouth of many Nigerians.

The Swagger

However, at a dinner party in Abuja, Tinubu told Nigerians how he deliberately stole Abiola’s shine with his swagger.

He reminded Nigerians that he was a Yoruba man.

According to him, he did not fall but prostrated to greet in commemoration of the Democracy Day celebration.

Tinubu said: “Earlier this morning, I had a swagger and it’s on social media”.

The president suggested that onlookers might have mistaken his misstep for the popular ‘Buga’ dance move or a traditional Yoruba way of prostrating to greet elders – ‘Idobale’ in Yoruba language.

“They were confused whether I was doing buga or babanriga,” Tinubu said.

“But it’s a day to celebrate democracy while doing ‘dobale’ for the day. I am a traditional Yoruba boy, I did my dobale,” the President concluded.

The truth is Tinubu is the first president to pull such stunt.

Or is he just trying to boycott the numerous questions asked by Nigerians with these jokes?
