Cab hailing in Nigeria did not start until mid-2014 when Uber first launched its services in Lagos. After Uber, other cab-hailing services such as Bolt, InDrive, LagRide, and RidaNigeria among others, have come on the scene to provide the much-needed service of moving people from one place to another, to the citizens of the most populous black nation on earth.

To start a cab-hailing service, you need a car, not just anyhow car but a car that is very fuel economical. Such a person also needs a current driver’s license, which qualifies him/her to drive on Nigerian roads.

The next thing is to get registered with Uber. Uber does not operate like the regular yellow taxi cab, so to drive with Uber, you will go through their training process after the training you get tested and if you pass the test, then a driver profile is created for the person Uber.

After your driver profile is created on Uber, the next phase is to take your car inspection. Uber has many inspection centres around Lagos: Isolo, Maryland, Ikeja, Victoria Island, Festac Town, etc. Inspection costs N2000, after payment, a test drive will be done, the car will be checked to be sure there is no major dent, no major scratches.

Also the Air Condition well in the car will be checked if it works or not, the horn, seatbelts will all be be checked, the trafficator light and all other lights work well.

The car will also be checked if it meets Uber standard and specification. Once this is done and the car passes, it can then be added to the person’s profile on Uber. At this point, that that the driver’s profile created and his car has been added to his profile, he will now need to be activated before he can start receiving rides.

For other cab hailing platforms like Bolt the process is the same only with different companies. And then you can start your business and making your money.
