What should have been a moment of joy for the Onyengba family turned out a moment of sadness and mourning.
It was a beautiful Tuesday and the family decided to enjoy it together.
Indeed, moments like this bond the family.
They organised a hangout at Alatise beach in the Ajah area of Lagos State.
It was at that hangout that the happy family was struck with sadness.
Their 13-year-old son, Kelvin Onyengba drowned while enjoying the hangout.
Sea Waves
The deceased and five of his friends were swimming at the Lagos beach when the incident occurred.
According to a police source, the tragic death of Kelvin was due to the force of the sea’s waves.
The source said: “The incident happened yesterday. The mother of the boy said that the wave of the water swept her son.
“According to her, he went out with five of his friends to swim and hang out, but unfortunately, the boy did not come back to his parents”.
Survey
The Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed the incident when reached for comment.

Hundeyin mentioned that detectives from the area had already surveyed the scene of the incident.
According to him, the deceased’s family was still anticipating the recovery of the missing body.
