Once again, the name of Seyi Tinubu, the son of Nigeria’s President, Bola Tinubu, is top on the trends.
Indeed, reports alleging that there are plots to install Seyi Tinubu as the next governor of Lagos are not new.
From time to time, these reports spring up but sooner than later they fade away.
However, for the first time, this rumour is not just hitting the streets of the internet as mere talks, it is coming with so much spice of truth.
As we speak, a coalition of Lagos Indigenous Youths, on Thursday, vowed to move against non-indigenes from contesting the 2027 governorship election in Lagos State.
The drama started when the youth group, in a statement by its president, Abdul Kareem Whyte, wanted not to allow those it described as “faceless individuals to deny indigenes of Lagos State right to govern themselves in 2027.”
No Vacancy
Reacting to a group known as the Coalition of Nigerian Youth Leaders, CONYL, who endorsed Seyi Tinubu for governor of Lagos State in 2027 at its Owerri meeting, Abdul Kareem said there is ‘no vacancy for non-indigenes as Governor 2027’.
The statement read in part: “Our attention has been drawn to the recent endorsement of Seyi Tinubu for Lagos governor by a group known as Coalition of Nigerian Youth Leaders (CONYL) and the group is described as the umbrella body of all the youth groups drawn across the six geopolitical zones in Nigeria.
“The said Coalition sat in Owerri, Imo State and publicly issued the statement on endorsement, while we know Mr Seyi Tinubu has his democratic rights as a Nigerian, we condemn the ill-fated endorsement and described it as anti-democracy and a deliberate move by some faceless individuals to deny indigenes of Lagos State right to govern themselves in 2027.
“It is no longer news that since 1999 no true blood indigenes of Lagos State have taken over the mantle of leadership in the state (except one), the marginalization which underscores the essence of democracy and an outright denial of indigenes of Lagos State the right to govern themselves.
The Experience
“We know as a fact that there will soon be vacancy in Osun State where Mr Seyi Tinubu can best exercise his democratic rights unhindered.
And if the people of Owerri in Imo are also interested in benefiting from the experience Mr Seyi Tinubu has acquired in recent times, they can push him to succeed Governor Uzodinma.”
Well, there is no smoke without fire.
Who would have ever thought that the Igbos would support Seyi for such ambition?
Or that our brothers and sisters in Lagos would find themselves in such dilemma.

An X user, Iwunna says whichever way things play out, the Igbos will still be near the chair of power.
Don’t forget, Seyi is married to a beautiful Igbo woman.
He wrote: “So in 2027, if Seyi Tinubu wins, his Igbo wife will become Lagos First Lady.
If GRV wins, our half Igbo brother will become the governor of Lagos State while his Igbo wife will become the First Lady.”
Now, the Labour Party (LP) candidate, Gbadebo lost so much support when his roots were traced back to the Igbo land.
Should Seyi Tinubu ever emerge as a governorship candidate in Lagos State, what do you think would happen?
