Halima Abubakar Files ₦30 Billion Lawsuit Against AGN President

Suspended Nollywood actress, Halima Abubakar, has initiated legal action against Emeka Rollas, the President of the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN).

However, she demands ₦30 billion in damages following her suspension from the guild.

The lawsuit stems from a social media post made by Rollas, in which he announced Abubakar’s suspension.

Halima Abubakar was suspended over claims that she had slandered the Nollywood industry, but the actress has since refuted the allegations.

However, she expressed dismay at how the situation was handled.

In her response, Halima Abubakar noted that she was not consulted or informed about the allegations before her suspension was made public.

Also, she emphasised the injustice of the situation.

Through her legal representatives, P.D. Pius & Associates, Abubakar issued a letter dated October 20, 2024.

Also, she accused the AGN president of purposefully defaming her and exploiting her vulnerable state.

According to the letter, Rollas’ public statements have caused her significant emotional distress and damage to her reputation.

The letter also included demands for the immediate removal of the defamatory post from Rollas’ Instagram account, along with a public apology.

Additionally, the solicitors demanded ₦30 billion as compensation for the reputational harm Halima Abubakar has allegedly suffered.

The letter ended with a stern warning.

if Rollas fails to comply with these demands within seven days, Abubakar’s legal team will proceed with further legal action to protect her rights and seek justice for the harm done to her name.”
