FAAN power shut down

In the early hours of Saturday, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) will undertake a critical maintenance task at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport in Lagos.

Specifically, they will temporarily shut down the power supply to the airport’s International Terminal 2 (ITZ-2) as the clock strikes 1am.

For approximately three and a half hours, until 4:30am, engineers will work diligently to replace the Bus Riser 11KVA high-tension panel, a vital component of the terminal’s electrical system.

FAAN’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Obiageli Orah, explained that the team meticulously planned the operation to ensure minimal disruption to flight schedules and passenger services.

In a statement on Friday, she reassured travellers that they had made every effort to manage the impact of the power shutdown.

Meanwhile, during the maintenance period, Royal Air Maroc, one of the airlines operating in that time frame, will shift its check-in and arrival activities to International Terminal 1 (ITZ-1).

Furthermore, FAAN has properly informed all relevant parties, including airlines, security personnel, and concessionaires, about the temporary arrangements.

In addition, FAAN expressed its regret for any inconvenience this essential maintenance may cause.

As Orah explained: “The safety and security of everyone using the airport remain our top priority.”

Ultimately, by the time passengers return to ITZ-2 later in the day, these improvements will help ensure a more reliable power system for Nigeria’s busiest international gateway.
