Sports streaming service DAZN has confirmed a sublicensing agreement with telecommunications giant Telefónica for domestic rights to Spanish football’s top-flight, La Liga.
The non-exclusive distribution deal will enable Telefónica’s Movistar Plus+ pay-TV service to broadcast DAZN’s five weekly LaLiga games in Spain. DAZN had acquired rights for 175 LaLiga matches from 2022/23 until the end of the 2026/27 season during the league’s domestic tender in December.
DAZN and Telefónica split LaLiga’s domestic rights in a deal that ended Movistar’s stint as the league’s main pay-TV broadcaster. Paying a combined €4.95 billion in total, both media companies secured five LaLiga matches per fixture round, with the exception of three full matchdays per season, which Telefónica will air exclusively via Movistar.
DAZN added that the tie-up with Telefónica will help support the growth of sports streaming consumption in Spain.
