Cristiano Ronaldo has criticised Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag, stating that the club needs to “rebuild everything” to compete for top honours once again.
The Dutch manager is facing mounting pressure after United started the season with two defeats from their first three games.
Ronaldo, who had two stints at the club before moving to Saudi Arabian side Al-Nassr, questioned Ten Hag’s approach in a recent interview
“The coach says they cannot compete to win the Premier League and Champions League,” Ronaldo remarked. “As the manager of Manchester United, you cannot say that you’re not going to fight to win these titles.”
“Mentally, you might say we don’t have that potential, but you still have to try.”
Ronaldo emphasised his desire for United to be the best they can be, stating, “What I wish for Manchester United is the same as what I wish for myself – to be the best team possible.”
“I love that club… I’m not the type to forget the past.”
During his first spell at United, Ronaldo won three Premier League titles, the Champions League, two League Cups, an FA Cup, the FIFA Club World Cup, and the Community Shield, before moving to Real Madrid in 2009.
He rejoined United from Juventus in August 2021, scoring 145 goals in 346 appearances across both periods at the club, before transferring to Al-Nassr in December 2022 after criticising the manager.
