Nigerian singer, Charles Chibuezechukwu, known as Crayon, has revealed how his struggle with drug addiction nearly cost him his life.
He said this led to his hospitalisation in a psychiatric facility.
In an interview with YouTuber Korty EO, Crayon recalled a distressing episode outside his record label’s office, where his colleague Rema came to his aid during his darkest moments.
Reflecting on the incident, Crayon expressed gratitude that no one captured the moment on camera.
“I feel like I’m God’s favourite because nobody recorded me during the episode. If someone had recorded me, it would have messed with my confidence, my career, and everything,” he admitted
His Mental Struggle
The situation quickly caught the attention of those around him, including Rema, BabyFresy, and other members of his team, who rushed to his side, alarmed by his erratic behaviour.
Crayon recalled lying on Rema’s lap, with Rema reassuring him.
“Bro, trust me, once you pass this stage, you will come out great because I feel like this is the final battle you’re about to fight.”
Those words of encouragement left a lasting impact on Crayon, even as he struggled to recognise those around him during the episode.
The severity of the situation became clear when Crayon nearly jumped out of a moving car, likening his mental breakdown to the struggles faced by fellow artist Mohbad.
However, his team took him to a psychiatric hospital in Lekki, where he received the help he needed.
His Solace
After his treatment, Crayon found solace and support at the home of Don Jazzy, his mentor and the head of Mavin Records.
