A Federal High Court in Lagos has dismissed a fundamental rights lawsuit brought by controversial Nigerian crossdresser Okuneye Idris Olanrewaju, popularly known as Bobrisky.
The case was filed against the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the National Assembly.
Bobrisky had sought damages totalling ₦1.2 billion, including ₦200 million from the EFCC for alleged psychological trauma.
Also, ₦1 billion from the National Assembly for purportedly violating his right to a fair hearing.
Additionally, he requested a court order to prevent the EFCC and the National Assembly from detaining, harassing, or declaring him wanted.
The case stemmed from allegations by social media influencer Martins Otse, who leaked an audio recording claiming Bobrisky had paid the EFCC ₦15 million to drop money laundering charges against him.
However, the allegations sparked significant public attention and controversy.
Delivering the judgment, Justice Alexander Owoeye ruled that Bobrisky’s claims of rights violations were unsubstantiated and unsupported by credible evidence.
Also, the court determined that the applicant had failed to justify his requests for declaratory and injunctive relief.
The EFCC’s spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, confirmed the court’s decision in a statement. Justice Owoeye remarked:
“The claims of violation of fundamental rights against the 1st and 2nd Respondents were not supported by affidavit evidence placed before this Court. The Applicant’s claims lack merit and are accordingly dismissed.”
