The presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, revealed that the chose his running mate, Kashim Shettima, for his strong leadership abilities.
Tinubu revealed this in a meeting with leaders from the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), in Abuja, on Wednesday.
According to him, it would have been very easy to pick a Christain running mate, ahead of the 2023 general elections, but he needed a running mate to address the many urgent challenges in the country.
Tinubu noted that his choice was not based on religious sentiments but rather, what the country needs.
In his words, “ I seek to become Nigeria’s president, not on religious grounds but on the constitution. Thanks to the body for the invitation to candidates to speak on their plans for the nation.
“I believe in the need for a secular government and for us to work in the interest of the country just as I did in Lagos State. I partnered with the Christians to improve lives and foster education. I returned missionary schools to the rightful owners, most of which were Christians.”
IBrandTV had earlier reported that CAN was set to meet Presidential candidates from the All Progressives Congress (APC), People’s Democratic Party (PDP), and Labour Party (LP), having reviewed the problems hindering the peace and progress of the country and articulating suggestions to resolve them.
