Chelsea forward Mykhailo Mudryk has failed a doping test, the Premier League club announced on Tuesday, December 17, 2024. The 23-year-old Ukraine international has been provisionally suspended.
The Football Association notified Chelsea of an “adverse finding” in a urine sample provided by Mudryk. In response, Chelsea issued a statement expressing their support for the FA’s testing program and confirming that Mudryk has denied knowingly using any banned substances.
Mudryk personally addressed the situation via his Instagram account, stating that he was shocked by the positive test result.
He emphasized that he has never intentionally used banned substances and is cooperating with authorities to investigate the matter.
The UK Anti-Doping website warns athletes that intentional use of banned substances can result in a four-year ban. Mudryk’s situation is currently under investigation, and he remains hopeful that he will be cleared to return to the pitch soon.
