Chelsea is reportedly in advanced negotiations with Atletico Madrid to secure the signing of forward Joao Felix for a fee of £40 million plus add-ons.
If a deal is reached, it could lead to the revival of Conor Gallagher’s potential transfer to the Spanish club.
Felix, spent the second half of the 2022-23 season on loan at Stamford Bridge, where he scored four goals in 20 appearances for the Blues.
After a subsequent loan spell at Barcelona last season, the Portuguese forward has since returned to Atletico Madrid.
Chelsea is keen to finalize a deal for Felix, with the proposed fee in the region of £40 million.
This move would pave the way for Conor Gallagher, also 24, to complete his transfer to Atletico Madrid. Gallagher had been close to joining Atletico earlier this summer and even traveled to Madrid.
However, the deal stalled at the last minute due to complications surrounding Chelsea’s pursuit of Samu Omorodion.
The success of these moves depends on Atletico Madrid’s ability to raise funds by selling either Felix or Omorodion.
The club recently made a significant investment, spending £81 million to sign Julian Alvarez from Manchester City, which has put pressure on them to balance their finances.
Gallagher has since returned to London, leaving his future uncertain.
Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca commented on the situation before the club’s 2-0 defeat by Manchester City, stating, “Conor is back. He is training apart from the rest of the group.”
