Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, has passed away after battling leukemia.
The news of Governor Akeredolu’s death follows a series of health challenges. On December 13, he took another medical leave due to his prolonged illness, as confirmed by his chief press secretary, Richard Olatunde.
The statement emphasized the governor’s commitment to prioritizing his health and full recovery before returning to official duties.
During Akeredolu’s absence, Deputy Governor Lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa took on the role of acting governor, in accordance with the Nigerian Constitution.
Before his recent leave, the governor had resumed office in September following an extended medical leave abroad that began in June.
However, uncertainty about his health status led to political tension, with Akeredolu overseeing Ondo State affairs from his home in Ibadan, Oyo state’s capital.
