As the February 25 general election draws near, candidates are stepping up campaign promises and Atiku Abubakar is not left out.
“I am going to make sure that an Igbo becomes president after me as president because the Igbo is a universal race,” Atiku says.
He believes he is the stepping stone to an Igbo presidency in Nigeria.
Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar promises that an Igbo from either the South-East or South-South succeeds him if elected president.
“When I came to Enugu a few months ago for a town hall meeting, I told you that I am going to be the stepping stone to an Igbo president.
“And I mean that statement,” Mr. Abubakar said.
According to the former vice president, the geopolitical zone does not matter as long as his successor is Igbo.

“That’s why I chose an Igbo man from Delta as my running mate.”
Atiku Tells Enugu Residents To Remain In PDP
Speaking at his Enugu rally on Tuesday, Atiku urged Enugu residents to remain in the PDP to be in his government.
“As you can see, Nigeria is geared towards a PDP government.
“So, the next Federal Government is going to be formed by the PDP,” he said.
“I appeal to Enugu people to make sure that you remain in the PDP so that you will be in the mainstream and be part of that government,” the PDP flag bearer added.
