Drivers who drive against traffic, colloquially referred to as, “One-Way”, have stirred great concerns from the Lagos State Government.
Now, the Lagos State Government has taken its time to study the situation and has observed something quite strange, we must say.
As we speak, the state government has decided that motorists caught driving against traffic would now be subjected to psychiatric evaluation and prosecution.
Perhaps something is wrong with their heads, the government wondered.
Because how can a human being take such risks. When you see them, you will wonder if they have another life.
It was the commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, who shared this insight.
Ministerial Briefing
It was during the commencement of the 2024 ministerial briefing held at Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos.
The event happened on Tuesday.
The briefing discussed the ministry’s initiatives under the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
Osiyemi said: “The menace of driving against the flow of traffic is worrisome, and the state government is determined to curb it.
“Henceforth, any offender apprehended will be taken for pyschiatric test as well as prosecuted according to Lagos State Traffic laws”.
Also, Osiyemi expressed concern over the increasing number of fraudulent individuals in the metropolis.
These individuals falsely claim to work for the Ministry of Transportation (MOT).
The Hotlines
To tackle this concern, he provided hotlines for reporting such activities to the relevant authorities.
He noted that they could also be used to report traffic conditions across the metropolis.
Here are two hotline numbers you can use: 09020009000 and 09020004000.
Meanwhile, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, had ordered and supervised the arrest of some riders plying one-way.
It happened live along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway.
That fateful day, the Governor was on his way to an event.
Sanwo-Olu Vs The Lance Corporal
That was when his convoy ran into the lawless Okada riders who were driving against traffic.
Immediately, he ordered his security details to arrest them.

While several of them left their motorcycles and passengers upon sighting the convoy of Governor Sanwo-Olu, one of the offenders – a lance corporal in the Army, was arrested with his bike.
During the arrest, the soldier was heard telling the Governor he was an officer.
However, Sanwo-Olu in his reply, said that is the more reason for him to be arrested.
