Kano’s All Progressive Congress (APC) has characterized the ongoing demolition of properties declared as illegal by the state’s new NNPP government as a severe tragedy in the historic metropolis.

“Kano, as a megacity and commercial nerve center of Northern Nigeria and West Africa, is now facing a serious calamity from the NNPP-led administration,” stated Shehu Maigari, Deputy State Chairman of the APC.

“This Barbaric and wanton destruction of peoples’ means of livelihood by the state government calls for serious prayers as innocent persons are now counting their loses in billions.”

Also, the APC Chieftain claimed that the demolition exercise has paralysed and halted commercial activities in the famous Kanti Kwari Textile Market, Kofar Wambai, and other locations.

Devastating Tragedy

He is concerned that the action of the NNPP government has created unnecessary disorder, rampant damage, daylight stealing and seizure of innocent people’s properties by enraged youngsters.

“The APC condemned the barbaric behavior in its entirety because the Ganduje-led government was not the first regime to allocate lands to others, as Kwankwaso himself did, all the way back to the Abubakar Rimi period,” he said.

The Party then urged those whose property had been destroyed to seek legal redress and assert their legal rights, while cautioning parents to protect their children from unnecessary criminality.

Similarly, APC leaders encouraged security services to do more to restore public trust in the aftermath of what he termed ‘a devastating tragedy in the historic city’.
