Half of a Yellow Sun is primarily set during the Nigerian Civil War (1967–1970).

The movie is based on the award-winning novel by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie.
Also, the film follows the lives of twin sisters Olanna (Thandiwe Newton) and Kainene (Anika Noni Rose) as they navigate love, politics, and the effects of war in post-independence Nigeria.
The film touches on the ethnic and political tensions that erupted shortly after.

3. Lionheart (2018) – Directed By Genevieve Nnaji
Although not directly about Nigeria’s independence, Lionheart is a film that beautifully reflects the values of self-determination, pride, and ambition, which are essential to Nigeria’s post-independence identity.
The movie was directed by and starring Genevieve Nnaji, the film tells the story of Adaeze, a young woman who must step up to save her family’s transportation business after her father’s health declines.
