Alan Shearer was left disgusted as Paris Saint-Germain held Newcastle to a draw in the Champions League by virtue of a controversial penalty.
Newcastle United were on the verge of doing a double over Paris Saint-Germain in France when a controversial VAR decision awarded the hosts a penalty in injury time.
However, Kylian Mbappe scored from the spot to restore parity and spoil the Magpies’ party.
The penalty decision did not go down well with Newcastle legend Shearer, who called out the “disgusting” officiating on social media.
However, on his X handle, the Premier League’s leading all-time goalscorer wrote: “Do me a f*cking favour man. What a load of sh*t.”
In a subsequent post, he added: “A superb battling away performance from every single player.
“Shouldn’t be spoilt by a disgusting decision. Well done @NUFC.”
Magpies manager Eddie Howe was utterly disappointed with the outcome of the game.
However, he blamed home fans at Parc des Princes for putting “extreme pressure” on the officials that resulted in the controversial penalty decision.
The 1-1 draw has now left Newcastle’s hopes of progression on a knife edge.
Also, Borussia Dortmund have already progressed from the group and Luis Enrique’s PSG side now needs just a point to make it to the knockout stage.
