Health Ministry Confirms Cholera Outbreak In Cross River

The Cross River Ministry of Health has confirmed the outbreak of cholera in the state.

This was disclosed by the permanent secretary, Cross River State Ministry of Health, Dr. Iwara Iwara.

According to the permanent secretary, a Rapid Response team consisting have been established to tackle the situation in the affected 10 communities.

The said response team includes representatives of the World Health Organization (WHO), a Local government team, and others.

Dr. Iwara said he can not reveal the details of the affected persons nor can he confirm the number of persons who have died from the disease.

“I can’t confirm the number of persons who are dead, until I’m on the ground, but there is an outbreak of cholera in the Ekureku Community.

“The Rapid Response team has since been activated comprising WHO, Epidemiological team, Local government team, and so on are already on the ground as we speak, but I can’t give you any figure at the moment,” he said.

About 30 persons have reportedly died in Ekureku Community in the Abi Local government area of Cross River State following the outbreak of Cholera.
