Renowned Beninese international striker, Razak Omotoyossi, has passed away at the age of 38, the Benin football authorities have confirmed.
The cause of his death has not yet been disclosed.
Omotoyossi, born in Nigeria but naturalised to play for Benin, rose to become one of the country’s most celebrated football icons.

With 55 caps and 21 goals, he remains among Benin’s all-time top scorers.
He shot to continental prominence during the 2008 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, where he famously netted all four goals in Benin’s 4-1 win over Togo.
Razak finishes joint top scorer of the qualifiers alongside Cameroonian great Samuel Eto’o.
At club level, Omotoyossi enjoyed a diverse career across Europe, Africa, and the Middle East.
Also, he represented Helsingborgs IF in Sweden, where he featured in the UEFA Champions League, before moving to FC Metz in France.
Razak career also saw him play in South Africa, Egypt, Libya, Syria, and Moldova.
Celebrated for his tireless work ethic, sharp goal-scoring instinct, and his decision to represent Benin over Nigeria, Omotoyossi leaves behind a lasting legacy in African football.
