Irv Gotti, the influential music producer and co-founder of Murder Inc. Records, has passed away at the age of 54.
He died on February 5, 2025, in New York City.
Gotti was renowned for his significant contributions to the hip-hop and R&B music scenes, having worked with artists such as DMX, Ja Rule, Ashanti, and Kanye West.
Born Irving Domingo Lorenzo Jr. on June 26, 1970, Gotti began his career in the 1990s, collaborating with Def Jam Recordings and playing a pivotal role in launching the careers of Jay-Z and DMX.
In 1998, he co-founded Murder Inc. Records, which became a prominent label in the early 2000s, producing hits for artists like Ja Rule and Ashanti.
In recent years, Gotti faced health challenges, including a minor stroke in early 2024 and ongoing complications from diabetes. Despite these setbacks, he remained active in the music industry, working on a biopic about the late DMX.
His passing has prompted an outpouring of tributes from the music community. Kanye West, Ja Rule, among others, has expressed condolences, highlighting Gotti’s lasting impact on the industry.
