The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested a 26-year-old Nura Mas’ud from Mu’azu village in Sule Tankarkar LGA.
He allegedly set his 60-year-old-grandmother, Zuwaira Muhammad, on fire.
How Man Burnt His Grandma
According to PUNCH metro, Mrs. Muhammad had repeatedly voiced concerns about her grandson’s physical appearance and mental health, as he is said to be mentally unstable.
Mas’ud felt provoked by her constant inquiries. He warned her to stop, but she continued.
In a confessional audio clip, Mas’ud expressed his frustration over his grandmother’s endless questions about his health.

He admitted that his decision to pour petrol on her ended her questioning.
“She frequently asked about my health, and I asked her what was happening to me, but she kept mute.
“That was what informed my decision to pour petrol on her,” he stated.
When contacted, Shiisu Lawan Adam, the spokesman for the Jigawa State Police Command, confirmed the tragic incident.
He noted that preliminary investigations showed the suspect suffers from mental illness and has been receiving treatment at Kazaure Psychiatric Hospital.
“A preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect is suffering from mental illness and has been receiving treatment at the Kazaure Psychiatric Hospital,” Lawan emphasised.
Lawan provided further details: “One Nura Mas’ud, a 26-year-old from Mu’azu village, went to his family house with a petrol canister, poured it on his grandmother, Zuwaira Muhammad, aged 60, and set her ablaze”.
He added that the victim died while receiving treatment at a hospital and that Mas’ud voluntarily confessed to the crime due to her persistent inquiries about his mental health.
