Selena Gomez has opened up about a deeply personal matter, revealing that she is unable to carry her own children.
The actress, known for her role in Only Murders in the Building, shared this news due to her ongoing struggles with kidney stones and lupus disease.
Diagnosed with lupus in 2013, Gomez had a kidney transplant in 2017, affecting her ability to carry a pregnancy.
Gomez explained that the health risks associated with pregnancy would endanger both her life and that of the baby. “I haven’t ever said this. I unfortunately can’t carry my own children.”
I have a lot of medical issues that would put my life and the baby’s in jeopardy. That was something I had to grieve for a while.”
Once considering adoption and hoping to start a family by the age of 35 if she stayed single, Gomez has now come to terms with her situation.
Reflecting on her journey towards motherhood, she acknowledged, “It’s not necessarily the way I envisioned it.”
I thought it would happen the way it happens for everyone. But I’m in a much better place with that.”
“I find it a blessing that there are wonderful people willing to do surrogacy or adoption, which are both huge possibilities for me.”
