After spending one month in custody of the Nigerian Army, the traditional ruler of Ewu Kingdom, Clement Ikolo, finally regains freedom.
The Monarch was released to the Senator representing Delta Central at the National Assembly, Ede Dafinone, who will serve as the surety.
The Spokesman for the Army, Major General Clement Nwachukwu confirmed the development.
To him, the decision to hand the traditional ruler to the Senator is based on the fact that there’s nothing establishing his culpability even though no evidence exonerates him yet.
Okuama Killing
The traditional ruler of Ewu had surrendered himself to the police.
This was after he and several others were declared wanted by the military.
They were wanted in connection with the killing of 17 army personnel in Okuama, Delta State on March 14.
He had been in military custody for about a month.
The police handed him over to the military following his surrender.
On that fateful day, sixteen Nigerian soldiers on a peace mission were ambushed by youths in Okuoma.
Distress Call
The Director of Information at the Defence Headquarters (DHQ), Tukur Gusau, made this known in a statement issued in Abuja.
He said the unfortunate incident occurred when the troops responded to a distress call.
That call came after the communal crisis between the Okuama and Okoloba communities.
