Lagos Ranks 4th Worst City To Live In

The hustle and bustle of Lagos can reduce the lifespan of an individual living in the big city. The stress level has become high and unbearable.

Lagos Rank 4th Worst City To Live

Lagos is ranked the fourth worst city in the world to live in, according to the 2023 Global Liveability report from the Economist Intelligence Unit.

The report employed 30 qualitative and quantitative indicators, with an analysis of 173 cities, which were divided into five main categories – stability, healthcare, culture and environment, education and infrastructure.

Lagos The Busiest City In Nigeria

Lagos came in first place, ahead of the capitals of Tripoli, Libya, Algiers, Algeria, and Syria’s war-torn Damascus.

EIU said Lagos moved up the ranks after seeing improvements in healthcare and education but added that corruption is still a problem.

Following two years in which it maintained the second-worst liveability ranking, Lagos fell just below Damascus, which was kept down on the list by social chaos terrorism, and conflict.

“Even at the bottom of our rankings, cities such as Lagos (Nigeria) and Algiers (Algeria) have gained ground, with some improvements in their healthcare and education systems.

Both are in countries that are energy exporters and have to some extent benefited from higher global oil and gas prices,” the report reads.

“Although corruption continues to be an issue, some additional public funding has been made available for infrastructure and public services, which have also benefited from the decline in COVID cases.”

Liveable City To Live

Due to their “unmatched combination of stability, good infrastructure, strong education and healthcare services, and an abundance of culture and entertainment,” the capital cities of Denmark and Austria, Copenhagen and Vienna, respectively, have maintained their rankings as the first and second most liveable cities in the world.

The cities of Melbourne, Sydney, and Vancouver in Australia and Canada respectively took third, fourth, and fifth positions in the rankings.
