Nigeria’s political atmosphere is heating up once again, and this time, a viral video has pushed the country into another storm of controversy.

Akpabio Denies Threatening Northerners Over Tinubu’s 2027 Ambition

The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has strongly denied claims that he made inflammatory comments against Northerners ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The allegation, which spread rapidly across social media, came from one Garus Gololo, who claimed that Akpabio warned Northerners to either support President Bola Tinubu in 2027 or “leave Nigeria.”

But the Senate President’s camp says the entire story is fabricated.

And now, what started as a viral political accusation is fast turning into a national battle over propaganda, power and dangerous political narratives.

“Completely False” — Akpabio Fires Back

In a strongly worded reaction, Akpabio’s office dismissed the allegation as fake, malicious and politically motivated.

The rebuttal came through his Special Adviser on Diaspora and Non-Governmental Organisations, Jibril Lawal Tafida, who accused critics of deliberately attempting to poison public opinion against the Senate President.

According to Tafida, Akpabio never made any statement remotely close to what was alleged in the viral video.

He insisted the claim was carefully designed to stir ethnic tension and create unnecessary division at a time Nigeria is already struggling with deep political distrust.

The Presidency of the Senate warned Nigerians against falling for emotionally charged misinformation spreading online without verification.

A Viral Video… And A Nation On Edge

In today’s Nigeria, one viral clip can ignite outrage within minutes.

That is exactly what happened after the controversial video surfaced online.

The allegation immediately triggered heated debates across political circles, especially in the North, where many viewed the statement as provocative and insulting.

For some Nigerians, the issue goes beyond whether the statement was actually made.

The real fear is what such narratives could do to an already fragile political climate ahead of 2027.

Ethnic suspicion remains one of the country’s deepest fault lines, and political actors know exactly how powerful regional sentiments can become during election season.

That is why this controversy is attracting attention far beyond social media gossip.

“Akpabio Is Not Anti-North” — Aide Defends Senate President

Tafida maintained that Akpabio has consistently promoted national unity and inclusive politics throughout his public career.

He argued that it would be completely out of character for the Senate President to make comments capable of dividing Nigerians along regional or ethnic lines.

According to him, those behind the allegation are intentionally trying to paint Akpabio as an enemy of the North in order to weaken political trust ahead of future elections.

He challenged Garus Gololo to publicly provide proof of where and when the alleged statement was made.

“The public deserves to know the source of these baseless allegations,” the statement stressed.

Northern Group Demands Police Action

As the controversy intensified, the Northern Democratic Front (NDF) stepped into the matter with a dramatic demand.

The group petitioned the Inspector-General of Police, calling for the arrest and investigation of Gololo over what it described as defamatory and dangerous claims against the Senate President.

The petition, signed by the group’s National President, Engr. Musa Abba, and National Secretary, Barrister Bitrus Yohana, warned that false political accusations could threaten national peace if left unchecked.

According to the group, careless statements tied to ethnicity and elections have the potential to inflame tensions across the country.

The NDF argued that Nigeria cannot afford another politically charged regional crisis at a time citizens are already battling insecurity, hardship and growing distrust in leadership.

Politics, Propaganda And The 2027 Shadow

Behind the outrage lies a bigger question many Nigerians are beginning to ask:

Has the 2027 political war already started?

With alliances quietly forming and political camps positioning for power, accusations, counter-accusations and viral propaganda may soon become a regular feature of the national conversation.

The Akpabio controversy reveals just how explosive political communication has become in the digital age.

A single unverified statement can spread nationwide within hours, shape public perception and deepen division before facts are even established.

And in a country where ethnicity often intersects dangerously with politics, the consequences can be enormous.

The Bigger Danger Nobody Is Talking About

Perhaps the most troubling part of this controversy is not even the allegation itself.

It is how quickly Nigerians now believe the worst about one another.

Trust in political leaders is low.

Trust between regions is fragile.

And social media has become a battlefield where outrage travels faster than truth.

As politicians prepare for 2027, many observers fear that misinformation, ethnic manipulation and emotional propaganda could become the real weapons of the next election cycle.

For now, Akpabio’s camp insists the allegation is false.

But the controversy has once again exposed the deep cracks inside Nigeria’s political landscape — cracks that may widen dangerously as the road to 2027 begins.
