The old Lagos Airport Terminal at Murtala Muhammed is preparing for its final chapter.

Yet before demolition begins, the contractor, China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC), has asked for three extra months—not to stall, but to move airlines, offices, and staff into temporary spaces so the ₦712 billion transformation can proceed without halting airport operations.

The old Lagos Airport Terminal at Murtala Muhammed is preparing for its final chapter. Before demolition, CCECC, has asked for extra 3 months.

CCECC explained that it will use the period to relocate current users of the old terminal into temporary facilities.

The company plans to set up offices for staff and stakeholders, a departure hall, and airline counters.

By doing so, it aims to keep airport operations running while the project advances.

Since the contract already includes the relocation plan, CCECC must provide the alternative spaces before it demolishes the old terminal.

FAAN Clarifies Position

Meanwhile, the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) clarified that it has not delayed the project.

“The contractor is working to provide an alternative place so airport users can continue their operations while work is ongoing.

FAAN is not in any way obstructing the project,” an official said.

Last month, the federal government announced the complete demolition and reconstruction of the old international terminal.

The plan also links the new structure to the recently completed terminal and upgrades roads and infrastructure to ease passenger movement.

In addition, FAAN officials emphasised that the work goes far beyond renovation.

The project requires rebuilding the terminal from scratch, replacing plumbing and electrical systems, extending avio bridges, and redesigning access roads to correct flaws in the new terminal.

Ultimately, the redesigned terminal will streamline passenger flow by separating arrivals from departures, remove bottlenecks, and introduce modern facilities that meet international standards.
