The Kwara State Government has approved the purchase and distribution of agricultural inputs, fertilizers, seedlings, and herbicides, for the 2021 farming season.
This was disclosed in statement by the state government in Ilorin, on Friday.
Abdulquawiy Olododo, the Technical Assistant to Gov. AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, on Agriculture, who issued the statement, said the inputs would be subsidized at the rate of 50% for the farmers and that no fewer than 6,000 farmers across the state would be targeted for support.
The statement stated that the Governor had already constituted the committee that would handle the distribution of the inputs to the farmers.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Agriculture, would head the committee as Chairman, while the Technical Assistant to the governor on Agriculture would serve as alternate Chairman.
Members of the committee include, the Ag. MD of the state Agricultural Development Project (ADP), the Director Agricultural Services, Director Engineering Services, Director Planning Research and Statistics, all of the Ministry of Agriculture.
The Fadama Coordinator, Head of ICT/Technical, Agro Mall would serve as Secretary, the statement added.
According to the statement, the committee would engage various Stakeholders, from across the agricultural sector in the State, including associations and cooperatives, on the modality for the distribution of the inputs.
