Spotify, the popular music streaming platform, has named Afropop star Yemi Alade as its EQUAL Africa Artist for September.
This statement was released on Friday in Lagos by Phiona Okumu, Spotify’s Head of Music for Sub-Saharan Africa.
Okumu highlighted the purpose of the EQUAL Africa program.
She said it aims to elevate and empower female voices across the continent.
“Yemi Alade perfectly embodies the level of talent the EQUAL Africa initiative seeks to promote.
Spotify is honored to partner with Yemi and remains committed to using this platform to amplify women in music, ” Okumu stated.
However, Yemi Alade has solidified her position as one of Nigeria’s most influential female artists.
Also, it earns her a loyal fanbase both locally and internationally.
Yemi Alade became the second Nigerian and Afrobeats artist, as well as the first female, to surpass 100 million views on YouTube for a single video.
