What You Need To Know About The Revamped Warri Refinery

The successful rehabilitation of the Warri Refinery in Delta State signals the beginning of a new era in the Nigerian oil sector, and for Nigerians, this good news brings nothing but joy and excitement to their hearts.

This latest development has sparked curiosity from many who are eager to know more about the facility.

But O’tega Ogra, Tinubu’s Senior Special Assistant on New Media, says he has an important information to share about the refinery.

What You Need To Know About The Revamped Warri Refinery

First, he disclosed that the revived Warri Refinery kicked off on Saturday, December 28, 2024.

Ogra commended the Group Chief Executive Officer of Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Mele Kyari, for the effort put into reviving the refinery.

President Tinubu’s aide highlighted that while the Warri Refinery Area I Crude Distillation Unit (CDU) officially restarted on Saturday, at 12:25 pm; completion of the commissioning process with load-out of the AGO from the loading bay of the refinery was done on December 30, 2024.

The Warri Refinery Area I is currently operating at 60% capacity.

The 125,000 barrels-per-day refinery is already producing Straight Run Kerosene, Automotive Gas Oil, Low Pour Fuel Oil, and Heavy & Light Naphtha.

The refinery is expected to produce 166,000 liters of Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) daily, 1.8 million liters of straight-run kerosene (SRK) daily (equivalent to 40 trucks daily) and 3.1 million liters of Automotive Gas Oil daily (AGO) (equivalent to 70 trucks daily).

Ogra stressed that the Warri Refinery would enhance the production of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS), ensuring a steady supply of petroleum products and boosting Nigeria’s energy security.

He further commended the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) for their efficient regulation of the downstream sector, commitment to ensuring energy security, and continued support to all players.
