Weekly Roundup: NGX ASI Drops To 52,994 Basis Points

During the week ended April 6th, on the Nigerian Exchange Ltd (NGX), the All-Share-Index depreciated to close at 52,994.13 basis point.

A total turnover of 1.054 billion shares worth ₦10.050 billion in 16,155 deals were traded this week by investors on the floor of the NGX, in contrast to a total of 2.071 billion shares valued at ₦17.562 billion that exchanged hands last week in 17,917 deals.

The NGX All-Share Index and Market Capitalisation depreciated by 2.28% to close the week at 52,994.13 and ₦28.869 trillion respectively.

Similarly, all other indices finished lower with the exception of NGX Insurance which
appreciated by 2.19% while the NGX ASeM and NGX Growth indices closed flat.

The Financial Services Industry (measured by volume) led the activity chart with 630.378 million shares valued at ₦5.438 billion traded in 7,705 deals.

As a result, it contributed  59.83% and 54.11% to the total equity turnover volume and value respectively.

The Conglomerates Industry followed with 248.074 million shares worth ₦394.370 million in 812 deals.

The third place was the Oil and Gas Industry, with a turnover of 70.921 million shares worth ₦1.345 billion in 1,452 deals.

Top Three Equities (By Volume)

Market data reveals that Transnational Corporation (Transcorp) Plc, United Bank for Africa Plc and Fidelity Bank Plc are the top three equities.

Transcorp, UBA and Fidelity Bank accounted for 47.32% and 21.07% of the total equity turnover by volume and value respectively.

They made up the top three list by the measure of volume after investors traded 498.527 million shares, worth ₦2.118 billion, on their exchange floor in 1,862 deals.

Meanwhile Eterna led the losers table with a share loss of ₦1.30kobo, to settle at ₦5.50kobo, below the ₦6.80kobo it opened the week with.
