On Tuesday, July 16, 2024, the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Lagos State University (LASU), and Pan-Atlantic University (PAU) signed an educational partnership agreement with Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia, U.S.
This partnership aims to promote women’s education and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education.
The agreement was signed by Prof. Folasade Ogunsola, Vice-Chancellor of UNILAG; Prof. Adenike Boyo, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration) of LASU; Prof. Sola Oni, Dean of the School of Management and Social Science at PAU; and Dr. Helene Gayle of Spelman College.
The partnership is called “Developing Partnerships between U.S. and Nigerian Institutions of Higher Education.”
Prof. Ogunsola, the main host, expressed hope that this partnership would strengthen ties with the diaspora community and support the growth of STEM education in Nigeria.
She mentioned that it would help in building faculty capacity, improving collaborations, creating exchange opportunities, developing joint curricula, and encouraging multidisciplinary research.
