The Sultan of Sokoto and President General of the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA), Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, has proclaimed Saturday, March 1, 2025, as the first day of Ramadan 1446 AH.
The announcement was made from his Sokoto palace.
This follows verified reports of the crescent moon sighting from Islamic scholars, religious bodies, and moon-sighting committees across the nation.
This sighting confirms the end of Sha’aban 1446 AH.
Also, it paves the way for the sacred month of fasting.
A Call for Devotion and Unity
The Sultan urged Muslims across Nigeria to begin their fasting in accordance with Islamic principles.
He further encouraged prayers for national leaders, asking Allah to grant them wisdom in steering the country towards progress.
Also, unity and peaceful coexistence, regardless of religious or ethnic backgrounds, as harmony is crucial for national stability.
The Sultan also appealed to wealthy individuals to extend a hand of generosity by providing food and support to the vulnerable, especially during these challenging times.
He stressed that Ramadan is not just about fasting but also about compassion, self-reflection, and drawing closer to God.
