Spotify and Universal Music Group (UMG) have announced a new multi-year licensing agreement covering both recorded music and music publishing.
This direct license agreement spans Spotify’s extensive product portfolio in the United States and multiple other countries.
The collaboration aims to enrich opportunities for artistes, songwriters, and consumers through innovative subscription tiers, bundling music with non-music content, and expanding the audio-visual catalog.
Daniel Ek, CEO of Spotify, said that this deal will drive constant innovation and attract a broader user base to music subscriptions.
This agreement builds upon previous collaborations between UMG and Spotify. In March 2024, the two companies expanded their strategic relationship to introduce new promotional and social features aimed at enhancing fan experiences and artiste engagement.
These initiatives included allowing UMG artistes to share teasers of upcoming music on Spotify to increase fan engagement and pre-save activity before a new release.
