Inter Miami youth product, Shanyder Borgelin, scored a booming header off the bench against Newell’s Old Boys on Thursday.
A Robert Taylor’s corner kick saw the ball fly to the far-post, where Borgelin was waiting to smash home.
It was the 22-year-old’s first goal of preseason, and an impressive moment after Newell’s defense had held strong through the first 63 minutes of the match.
Also, Borgelin’s header was one of few bright spots for the Herons on Thursday evening.
The 22-year-old Haitian striker scored just three minutes after coming onto the pitch.
However, the brilliant strike off the six-foot-five head of the youngster doesn’t quite fit the narrative that fans hoped to see on Thursday.
The Herons have had a tough preseason, winning just one of six matches heading into their friendly against Newell’s Thursday evening.
However, fans have been disappointed by performances, and the general morale surrounding the star-studded club seems to be low.
Inter Miami’s lone victory came against Hong Kong Team – a match where both Messi and Suarez did not play.
Now, leading into next week’s MLS opener, the Herons will look to forget their Preseason from Hell and get back on-track ahead of the 2024 campaign.

However, the Herons take on Real Salt Lake on Wednesday, February 21 in their first match of the 2024 MLS campaign.
Until then, they’ll look to get the rumoured signing of Federico Redondo over the line, as Inter Miami looks to bolster their roster.
