The Oyo State Government, under the leadership of Governor Seyi Makinde, has approved the appointment of Prince Abimbola Akeem Owoade as the new Alaafin of Oyo.
This historic announcement was made on Friday.
This brings an end to the leadership vacuum that has persisted since the passing of Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III on April 22, 2022.
Prince Dotun Oyelade, the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, spoke on behalf of the governor.
He announced that Prince Owoade’s selection was the result of thorough consultations.
Also, he added that divinations conducted by the Oyomesi, Oyo’s traditional kingmakers, confirmed the choice.
The recommendation was subsequently endorsed by Governor Makinde, who expressed confidence in the choice.
“This appointment marks the conclusion of all socio-legal disputes that have arisen since the demise of the late Alaafin,” the commissioner noted.
Prince Oyelade further prayed for Prince Owoade’s reign to usher in a new era of peace and prosperity.
