It has been over a year since Russia invaded Ukraine and President Volodymyr Zleensky is inviting Chinese President Xi Jinping.
In February 2022, Russia invaded Ukraine and has since launched several attacks on the country.
Since the invasion, Ukraine’s president, Volodymyr Zelensky, and Chinese President Xi Jinping have not communicated.
But, China published a 12-point plan for “a political resolution of the Ukraine crisis” last month.
Discussion With Putin
President Xi has however discussed the conflict with his “dear friend”, Russian President Vladimir Putin.

This was done during a state visit to Moscow last week.
However, the talks did not show progress on how or possible plans to end the war.
The Proposal
China is proposing a call for de-escalation and an eventual ceasefire in Ukraine.
But the United States has dismissed the proposal, given that China has refused to condemn Russia for invading Ukraine.
According to the US, a ceasefire now would lock in Russian territorial gains and give Putin’s army more time to regroup.
Ukraine has welcomed China’s diplomatic involvement, but Mr Zelensky says he will only consider peace settlements after Russian troops leave Ukrainian territory.
President Zelensky says Ukraine is “ready to see him here” referring to President Xi.
