Ruth Kadiri's "Alaye" Movie: An Honest Review

The movie is about a young lady’s life that was thrown into chaos after the demise of her father.

In a bid to weather the storm amid the debilitating situation, she got entangled by unscrupulous men who put her in harm’s way.

With her life hanging in the balance, she unexpectedly found love in the most weird situations.

Directed by Okey Ifeanyi, “Alaye” boasts an impressive cast, including Ruth Kadiri, Samuel “Broda Shaggy” Perry, Eddie Watson, Aloma Isaac, Monica Friday, Rosemary Afuape, and Atewe Raphael.

The POV crew (Ayo Famurewa, Mishael Abanum, and Jude Onowu) was in their usual critique mode, and they had a lot to say about the movie. Read on to find out more.

Scripting and Characterization: Room for Improvement

Regarding scripting, Ayo found the storyline unclear and expected a gangster movie based on the theme.

He expressed disappointment with the plot, stating that the script lacked creativity and believability.

Jude was particularly unimpressed with Broda Shaggy’s performance, stating that he didn’t do anything different from his usual skit character.

On characterization, Mishael had an issue with influencers and skit makers transitioning into movie roles.

She believes it was primarily done for commercial reasons.

However, Ayo was impressed with Monica Friday’s performance and commended the seamless chemistry and dialogue between her and Broda Shaggy.

Cinematography and Costumes: Basic and Average

Jude stated that the cinematography was basic and that the filming lacked creativity and professionalism.

According to him, it should have been better, going by Ruth Kadiri’s profile as an established filmmaker.

Mishael and Ayo bared their minds regarding the costumes and make-up, and they unanimously agreed that it was an average effort by the team.

The Verdict: A Collective Roast

Despite the love and appeal that the lead actor, Ruth Kadiri, attracts,. The POV crew gave a collective roast to ‘Alaye’  and also requested that a sequel be done with better preparation.
