An Assistant Pastor in the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) has been sentenced to a two year jail term for issuing a dud cheque of $1.6 million.
Pastor Ayodeji Oluokun who is the assistant pastor of RCCG’s, City of David Parish, Victoria Island, was sentenced by Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo of the Lagos State Special Offences Court, Ikeja.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) had charged Oluokun alongside his company, Peak Petroleum Industry Nigeria Ltd, on six-count charge bordering on issuance of dud cheque, stealing and obtaining money under false pretense.
Justice Oluwatoyin Taiwo while delivering judgment, held that the prosecution had successfully proved the charge of issuance of dud cheque against the defendants, but failed to prove other charges preferred against the accused person.
The judge then discharged and acquitted the defendants of stealing and obtaining money under false pretense.
According to the judge, the prosecutor failed to establish the charge of stealing and obtaining money under false pretense.

The judge thereafter sentenced Oluokun to two years imprisonment or pay a fine of two million naira and his company to also pay a fine of two million naira.
She ordered the convict to make restitution of $1.6 million to the nominal complainant within 18 months.
