Real Madrid forward Vinicius Jr has been ruled out of his side’s upcoming Champions League match against Liverpool due to a hamstring injury.
The Brazilian player had featured in the entirety of Real Madrid’s 3-0 La Liga victory over Leganes on Sunday.
The injury is a significant blow to Real Madrid, who are set to face premier league table-topping Liverpool at Anfield on Wednesday, November 27, 2024.
Madrid currently occupy 18th place in the 36-team Champions League table, making the match against Liverpool a crucial one.
According to a statement released by the club on Monday, Vinicius Jr suffered “an injury to the biceps femoris in his left leg.”
Although initial reports suggest that the player could be sidelined for approximately three weeks, Real Madrid have not commented on the severity of the injury.
Vinicius Jr took to social media platform X to express his frustration with the injury, writing: “Crazy calendar. Time to recover.”
Liverpool on their part are likely to be without the services of defender Trent Alexander-Arnold for the match against Real Madrid.
The England right-back missed Sunday’s 3-2 win at Southampton due to a hamstring injury sustained before the international break.
