Reactions Trail Supreme Court Ruling On Deadline For Old Notes

The Supreme Court order stopping the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) from implementing the deadline for the collection of old naira notes has sparked massive reactions from Nigerians.

A seven-man panel of the apex Court led by Justice John Okoro, in a unanimous ruling, restricted the Nigerian Government, Central Bank of Nigeria, their agents and commercial banks from implementing the February 10 deadline for the swap of old 200, 500 and 1000 naira notes.

Furthermore, the court barred the Nigerian Government, CBN and commercial banks from continuing with the set deadline pending the determination of a notice in respect of the issue on February 15.

The decision of the court has generated numerous reactions from social media users who took to their handles to air their opinions over the development.

While many Nigerians applauded the verdict of the court, a large section could not hide their disappointment at the court ruling.
